National News

 

22 GPS stations set by GSI across India. 22 GPS permanent stations have been set up and remaining 13 will be operational by March 2020
In order to identify seismically hazardous zones and encourage mapping activities, the Geological Survey of India (GSI) launched 22 permanent Global Positioning System (GPS) stations across India, which is a part of its objective to establish and maintain a network of continuously operating 35 permanent GPS stations in a phased manner.

The Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis announced various welfare schemes for the Dhangar community including 10,000 houses, AshramShalas, Scholarships, admission seats and Hostels for students belonging to this community.
 

As Per NARSS 2018-19, 96.5% of Indian rural households have access to toilets
An Independent Verification Agency under the World Bank support project to the Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen (SBM-G)conducted the  National Annual Rural Sanitation Survey (NARSS) between November 2018 and February 2019.

Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister, Prakash Javadekar, on the occasion of National Science Day, that is 28th February 2019, launched the Scheme for Translational and Advanced Research in Science (STARS) aimed at funding science projects.
It will be utilised to sponsor about 500 science projects, selected on the basis of competitions.

Dr Mahesh Sharma Inaugurates ‘Azaadi Ke Diwane’ Museum at Red Fort Complex in Delhi
The museum has been dedicated to the freedom fighters of our country. It has been constructed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and is the fifth museum to be dedicated to freedom fighters.

The Haat aims to provide infrastructural support to handloom agencies so that they can enhance their sales of handloom products and provide a platform to display a wide variety of handloom products that are produced all over the country.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates BOLD-QIT project in Assam
It was adopted to deal with the problem of border safeguarding in the areas where border fences can’t be constructed due to the Brahmaputra river.
Previous fencing projects include two smart-fencing pilot projects of 5Km each along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu. It is based on a security model similar to that of Israel.

The foundation stone for the ‘National Institute of Mental Health Rehabilitation’ (NIMHR), the first-of-its-kind institute in India, was laid down by Shakuntala D. Delhi government launches app ‘One Delhi’ to track bus, metro services
The app offers facilities such as:
Obtaining the estimated time of arrival and Tracking the real-time location for buses and metros.
Providing information about their fares and the best route and mode of travel between two places.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the State’s new 5-year industrial policy which will be effective from 1st April 2019.
Its aim to emphasizes on high technology and employment generating businesses which aim to attract investments worth 10 lakh crore rupees.
It will create nearly 40 lakh Jobs by 2023-24 and the goal is to turn Maharashtra into a trillion dollar (one lakh crore) economy.

Government introduces schemes to provide financial assistance for transport, marketing of agriculture products to boost export.
The Government will reimburse a certain percentage of freight charges and provide assistance for marketing of agricultural produce under this transport and marketing assistance scheme.

Model guidelines for development and regulation of retirement homes issued by the Government
That address the special needs and protect the rights of senior citizens and retirees living in Retirement Homes who aspire to spend their retired life independently in a safe, secure and dignified environment.

NITI Aayog’s list of aspirational districts for the period of December 2018-January 2019 has been topped by 3 districts of Jharkhand- Chatra, Sahibganj, and Hazaribagh. These districts have performed well in ‘health and nutrition’ parameters.
In terms of education, the top ranks were attained by Sonbhadra (Uttar Pradesh), Sahibganj (Jharkhand) and Chatra (Jharkhand).
About Aspirational Districts Programme
It was launched on January 5, 2018, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Progress in six areas such as health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion, skill development, and basic infrastructure is considered.
 
Coal Minister Piyush Goyal dedicated to the nation a 1,000-megawatt (MW) thermal power project of Neyveli Tamil Nadu Power Ltd (NTPL) at Thoothukudi and a 150-MW solar power projects of NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) at Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts in Tamil Nadu.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the scheme ‘Mukhya Mantri Karigar Sahayata’ for financial assistance to craftsmen. 
Under this Scheme-
Craftsmen with 10 years of experience and having an annual income below Rs.1 lakh are eligible to get the assistance of Rs.800 per month and For craftsmen above 80 years of age would get Rs.1000 per month allowance for those has the same experience and annual income as above.
Annual income certificate, residence proof, experience certificate and age proof are required to produce for availing the benefits of the scheme.

Gurugram became world’s most polluted city in 2018
The report was based on a new study by Swiss-based company IQ Air AirVisual and non-profit organization Greenpeace on information from over 3000 cities.
Bangladesh became the most polluted country closely followed by Pakistan and India while Iceland, Finland, Australia, Estonia and Sweden were among the least polluted countries.

Red Flag 2019 (Red Flag Launched in 1975, Red Flag is the U.S. Air Force’s premier air-to-air combat training exercise) the 12-day long advanced aerial combat training exercise held several times a year by the US Air Force, at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, United States.
The exercise is scheduled from 3rd to 16th March 2019 and air forces from the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, the Netherlands, Singapore and Saudi Arabia are participating in it.

Mumbai become the world’s 16th most costly prime residential market: Knight Frank Report
The Philippines’ capital Manila topped the global list with the highest price appreciation of 11.1% last year, followed by Edinburgh (Scotland) in the second position with a 10.6% rise.

Loan Agreement worth USD 25.2 Million signed between India and the World Bank for Chhattisgarh Public Financial Management and Accountability Program
It aims to provide support to reforms such as expenditure planning, investment management, budget execution, public procurement and accountability which are undertaken by the state for expenditure management.

Loan Agreement worth USD 96 Million signed between India and World Bank for Additional Financing for Uttarakhand Disaster Recovery Project
It aims to provide financial support to Uttarakhand for adopting post-disaster recovery plans and disaster management techniques such as the reconstruction of bridges, road and river bank protection works, and in the construction of a training facility for the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

The government has given a nod to the IDBI Bank to handle import and export transactions with Iran. This has been done to boost the trade between India and Iran amidst US sanctions on Iran.

World Bank to grant 250 Million dollars for National Rural Economic Transformation Project (NRETP) to boost Rural incomes in India.

World Bank to provide Rs 2,200 crores for a healthcare project to Andhra Pradesh
The project aims to improve the quality of healthcare, availability and accessibility of primary health services to the majority population of the state.
The loan has a six-year grace period and a maturity of 29 years and 6 months.

State Bank of India (SBI) and Hitachi Payment Services Pvt Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd, launched their merchant-acquiring joint venture, SBI Payment Services Pvt Ltd (SBIPSPL), for establishing a digital payments platform for India and other countries in the region, in Mumbai.
SBI has a 74% stake in the joint venture and the balance 26% is with Hitachi Payment Services.

The unemployment rate in India rose to 7.2% in February 2019, the highest since September 2016, and up from 5.9% in February 2018, according to data compiled by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE).
